If you’re shopping for your friend, wife, girlfriend, or fiancé who just had a baby, you probably Googled “gifts for new mom” and got bombarded with suggestions like robes, gift boxes, graphic T-shirts and other cheesy gift ideas. You want to give them something they’ll actually enjoy and love! In this post, I’ll be sharing the top 5 gifts I received or gifted myself postpartum (as in, *just* had a baby). As a mom of 2, this is the guide I wish I’d seen before having my babies.

Clickable List

  1. Kindle
  2. Nice Pajamas
  3. Non-Baby Related Gifts
  4. Food
  5. DIY Postpartum Basket
  6. Extras

A Backlit Kindle or E-Reader

I kept thinking about how much more I use my phone either while nursing or contact naps and wished there was a way to stop doing that while also doing something else during these sometimes long sessions. I bought myself a Kindle and never looked back! It helped me stop the doom-scrolling sessions and really got me back into reading. It’s so easy and convenient compared to physical books because you can take it everywhere, easily use it with one hand, and carry around hundreds of books with you.

This is the Kindle I have and love! It’s backlit so night readings are a breeze and my favorite thing to do to unwind and fall asleep. I’m seriously becoming a Kindle salesperson because I love the thing so much.

Some Nice Pajamas

Many women opt for baggy T-Shirts and sweats for pajamas, I used to as well. Until I started investing in nice pajama sets. Not just any pajama set. I had to make sure they were super soft, and made of natural fabric (cotton, silk). I also recommend buying the matching sets that have a button up blouse, to make nursing as easy as possible.

I basically lived in my pajama set the first 8 weeks and now can only sleep in these. They are so comfortable, cozy, and make night-feeds an easy task. After searching the internet far and wide, I’ve yet to find a better deal than these. They’re affordable, super comfy, and they fit great. These are also great, and they’re made of a cotton/linen blend.

If she’s 4 weeks or more postpartum, then I highly recommend in investing in some luxury pajamas like these silk pajamas by Lunya.

Lastly, if you’re going big then buy her a few sets to have on rotation! If you want something made of organic cotton that won’t completely break the bank, this set by Quince is your best bet.

Something Non-Baby Related

I recommend giving new moms something non-baby related simply because moms don’t really get to do or buy things for themselves often.

Try to think of hobbies or interests that the mom you’re shopping for has and buy them a gift that relates to that. Do they love gardening? How about giving them some in-season seeds along with new gardening gloves (nice ones). Think of things she maybe hasn’t been able to do in a while because of pregnancy! If she’s into games, consider gifting her a Nintendo Switch. If she wants to start cooking, some nice pans. You get the idea! 🙂

Food….

As new moms, our main focus is feeding our newborns and we often forget to feed ourselves. Gifting new moms food you made or had made will never go underappreciated. You can also gift a Door Dash gift card or Whole Foods gift cards and they’ll love you to pieces! I still remember when I was recovering in bed and my neighbor would bring me homecooked meals. I’ll never forget the feeling of relief and joy of being able to just sit down and enjoy a yummy homecooked meal.

DIY Postpartum Basket

Both times I’ve given birth, I did not have a postpartum basket prepared. Truly, I wish I did! In this basket, I would include maxi pads for the bleeding, pain medicine/remedies, protein bars, mesh underwear, comfy socks, nursing bras, peri wash bottle, a reusable water bottle, postnatal vitamins, some sweets to enjoy while nursing, and a note filled with loving words.

Notable Mentions (extra ideas)

These are a few extra things I’ve gifted myself that are making postpartum easier for me personally!

  • Lalabu babywearing shirt: so much less fussy than a wrap, and it doubles as a nursing/pumping top when baby outgrows it.
  • TushBaby hip carrier: I use this daily with both my newborn and 4 year old (she’s small). Absolutely saves my back!
  • Nursing/pumping/babywearing sweatshirt from Latched Mama. So convenient!

I hope this guide was helpful and you were able to find the new mom in your life the perfect gift.
